Hemorrhoids During Pregnancy

Facts About Hemorrhoids During Pregnancy And How To Deal With It

It is known fact that when a woman is pregnant, she is at high risk of developing hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids will refer to the varicose-like veins that will be inflamed and swollen. This can be classified as external hemorrhoids and internal hemorrhoids. How are hemorrhoids during pregnancy formed and why this condition is common to pregnant women? Are there other difficulties or complications associated with hemorrhoids during pregnancy?

Hemorrhoids may occur during the second or third trimester of pregnancy. As the pressure within the external or internal hemorrhoidal veins increases, hemorrhoids during pregnancy start to develop. Numerous factors can cause its development. Frequent occurrence of constipation is one of the major causes of hemorrhoids. It may be due to the enlargement of hemorrhoidal vessels caused by changes in the hormones of both the mother and fetus. Growth of the uterus and fetus can also add pressure on the veins of the pelvis. Another fact during pregnancy is that hormone progesterone can cause relaxation to the veins’ walls which allows them to easily swell. Progesterone is another contributory factor to constipation as it slows down the process in your intestinal tract. This is why pregnant women are prone to having hemorrhoids during pregnancy due to excessive straining and pressure.
